5 Ways to Level Up Your Work-from-Home Look

Since the pandemic, many people have made the switch over to working from home on either a hybrid or permanent basis. For a lot of us, this means sweatpants and pyjama tops all day every day.

However, it’s been proven that for most people, actually getting dressed in the mornings can help you to be more productive when working from home, boost your mood and contribute to a greater sense of purpose. Here are a few ways to level up your dress code at home without making things uncomfortable.

Simple Accessories

You’d be surprised by how much a few small and simple accessories can make you feel put together without even trying. You don’t need to be wearing loud extravagant pieces (and we’d hope you wouldn’t do this at the office either), but simply make an effort – for yourself!

Keep things simple with a pair of professional-looking clear frame glasses, a simple pair of earrings and a staple necklace. These are items that you never even need to take off, so you won’t need to think about matching things up with your outfit each day.

Freshen Up

Next, we know that it’s always simpler to roll out of bed 5 minutes before your first Zoom call and pull your hair back, but you’ll always feel better if you make an effort to freshen up first.

That means washing your face, applying a moisturiser, brushing and styling your hair and even putting on a little makeup if it makes you feel more awake and alive. Invest in the type of makeup products that are suitable for working from home – breathable, light and minimal effort.

Professional Up Top, Comfy Down Below

Many people swear by the rule that you only need to look good in the places where you’ll be visible on an online call. This is a good rule of thumb, but we don’t recommend staying in pyjama bottoms and slippers all day either.

Instead of forcing yourself into a pencil skirt or jeans, invest in some comfortable (but nice-looking) leggings, sweatpants, or slacks. These items can be super comfy but still styled to look and feel like you’ve made an effort.

Actually Wear Shoes

This same rule applies to shoes as well – you should wear them! Of course, this doesn’t mean you should be stepping into your heels each morning, but there are plenty of comfortable shoe options out there that are perfect for a WFH outfit.

Opt for easy and comfy slip-ons or a nice pair of slides in the summertime. If you don’t like to wear shoes inside your home, you can skip this rule too.

Dress to Boost Your Mood

Finally, keep in mind that the way you dress can have a profound impact on your mood. Try to wear colours that make you feel confident and happy.

Similarly, you don’t need to be rigid in your dress code. If you feel like you’re lacking in motivation and need a pick-me-up, go the extra mile and dress up for your workday, even if you don’t have any meetings planned. On the other hand, if you’re feeling extra tired, a pyjama day from time to time never killed anybody.
